SAD NEWS: Livid Tony Blackburn is all of us as he lets rip over Coronation Street being cancelled

Coronation Street was pulled from schedules yet again last night (February 28), and legendary DJ Tony Blackburn made no bones about the fact that he has had quite enough.

The ITV schedules have been all over the place in recent weeks thanks to the FA Cup, with our favourite soaps often being shifted to a different slot in order to facilitate airing the football matches.

This is something that Tony, like many of us, is so over.

With Corrie’s usual slot having been taken up by the Liverpool versus Southampton match last night, Tony took to Twitter/X to vent his frustrations, as well as suggesting an alternative to taking the show off air.

‘This is now beyond a joke for all us Coronation Street fans,’ he penned. ‘More football this evening on BBC and ITV which means no Corrie.

‘Why can’t they put football on other channels and leave us Coronation Street fans alone or put Coronation Street on say ITV2 we will follow it anywhere !!!’

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays local vicar Billy Mayhew, was thrilled to hear that Tony is such a fan.

‘This has made my night! I grew up listening to you. I love it that you love us,’ he wrote, adding a red love heart emoji.

Countless Corrie fans took to the comments of the post to agree with Tony’s sentiments, with some suggesting that the football be moved to its own channel.

Amid the chaos of the schedule changes, it’s been a dramatic week on the cobbles so far.

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was left devastated by Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) after her affair with Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn) was finally exposed, and she admitted that she was bored of their marriage.

Elsewhere, Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) managed to secure a deal to get Newton and Ridley back in the pub, though she revealed herself as joint owner to Carla Connor (Alison King) in the process.

With Daisy having stolen money from Underworld to fund her share of the pub, she was forced to lie about how she came to buy her half.

Meanwhile, Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) came face to face with Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) wife Emily (Ellena Vincent), who urged her not to give up on their relationship, while Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) hit a roadblock in Harvey Gaskell’s (Will Mellor) appeal process.

With all the schedule changes this week, Corrie is set to air again tonight (February 29) and tomorrow (March 1).
