ITV Coronation Street star Peter Ash issues update on Paul Foreman exit as he returns to work

Coronation Street star Peter Ash has informed fans that Paul Foreman’s story is ‘not finished yet’ as he returned to work following a break from filming.

The actor, who plays Paul in the ITV soap, took to social media to share a mirror selfie from his dressing room. ‘First day back at work!,’ he wrote as a caption.

‘Not finished Paul’s story yet.’

Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie Plummer on the show, wrote in the comments that Peter is ‘fabulous’, and we couldn’t agree more.

Paul, Peter’s soap counterpart, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year. A huge development in the story saw the character decide that he wanted to take control of how his life ended, asking his loved ones to help him die when the time came.

His decision was spurred on by the sad death of friend Shelly, who had also been living with MND. Shelly died alone in her flat.

Wanting to be able to choose when he would go, Paul made the decision that he would take his own life.

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) was horrified when he found out about his husband’s plan but, after listening to Paul explain his reasons, the vicar decided that he would help him when the time came.

Scenes set to air next week will see Paul accompany sister Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and mum Bernie (Jane Hazelgrove) on a night in the latter’s dilapidated motorhome.

The siblings soon start to suspect that Bernie is lost, with all three sharing worrying looks as they discover there is no phone signal.

Billy, meanwhile, grows concerned about Paul’s whereabouts and tries to call him – and panic soon sets in when he finds out that the drugs Paul has obtained aren’t where they’re supposed to be. Gemma later answers her twin’s phone to hear Billy begging Paul not to take the drugs.

Will Paul come clean to Bernie and Gemma about his end-of-life plan?
