ITV Coronation Street spoilers: Steve McDonald’s exit revealed as Tracy finds spark with Tommy Orpington

Steve McDondald (Simon Gregson) has no idea of what lies ahead in Coronation Street as he leaves the cobbles while Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) keeps an eye on footballer Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).

Tommy is now working as a painter and decorator and was recently hired by Tracy to update her bedroom but in this new storyline, Tracy’s going to be doing more than admiring his creative talents.

Careful.

Coming up, Steve feels torn between spending time with his hero Tommy Orpington or his daughter when Emma phones and invites him to spend the week in France.

Eventually, Steve concludes that he should spend time with Emma but as he leaves for France, he watches with envy as Tommy pulls up in his van outside Number 1.

Kevin (Michael Le Vell), Tim (Joe Duttine) and Kirk (Andrew Whyment) all head over and fawn over Tommy, hoping to drag him to the pub, but Tracy sends them packing.

But as Tommy and Tracy spend time with each other, it’s clear there’s a spark between them.

Later in the week, when Tommy fails to turn up on time, Tracy isn’t best pleased, but her eyes light up when he compliments her on her outfit.

In the flower shop, Toyah (Georgia Taylor) enthuses about Tommy and how sexy he looks in his overalls, and Mary (Patti Clare) gets an idea.

Mary suggests to Tracy that she should do some matchmaking as it’s clear Toyah fancies Tommy, but she has other plans and claims Tommy is a womaniser and not to be trusted.

Back at Number One, Tommy admits that he does fancy Tracy – but does she feel the same?

‘I think he feels a little bit scorned by relationships generally’, actor Matt Milburn explained.

‘He’s not got any ill feelings towards his ex-wife but I think his feelings towards long term relationships as a whole is something he’s not convinced by. He had no desire to meet someone and I’m not really sure if he’s ready for dating, so meeting someone like Tracy who is married for a start, is not an ideal scenario.

‘I think his view on relationships is probably anti long-term relationships and he believes monogamy isn’t the way forward. He does feel guilty because he likes Steve and he’s definitely not out to hurt anyone but at the same time, the guilt isn’t driving him under the ground either. He’s not the one that’s married so I suppose he doesn’t carry the majority of the guilt…’

Oh dear, surely this can only end badly?
