ITV Coronation Street spoilers: Horrific ordeal as popular character is brutally attacked with bats

Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) faces a terrifying ordeal next week in Coronation Street as masked burglars break into the Rovers Return pub and attack her.

Since her arrival, Glenda has been established as a comedic character with a heart of gold. She makes us laugh in the pub and also spends time running the Little Big Shotz drama group, so suffice to say this upcoming ordeal is going to have a massive impact on her.

Coming up, Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) tells Glenda and Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) about her plans for a speed dating night. While Daisy isn’t too keen, Glenda reckons it’s a fab idea.

With Jenny heading off to a posh dinner with Rita (Barbara Knox) and Daisy going away with Ryan (Ryan Prescott), a glammed up Glenda gets ready to host the speed dating night at the pub.

As things get underway, it becomes apparent the evening is lacking in romance apart from Christina (Amy Robbins) – Daisy’s mum – taking a shine to a guy with a tattoo.

With the night over and the pub closed, Glenda heads through to the bar and finds masked burglars raiding the till.

One of the men orders Glenda to get onto the floor, and she does as she’s told.

As the robbers make off with the takings, a tearful and panicky Glenda calls the police.

When Jenny returns home, Glenda puts on a brave face, but will things ever be the same for the beloved character?

‘No, Glenda won’t admit to it [that she’s struggling]. Again, it’s her saving face. And I don’t think she wants to admit to it’, Jodie Prenger told us.

‘She doesn’t want to admit to that experience getting to her, which we all don’t. And it’s something that I hope raises truths with a lot of people that have gone through experiences like that and go, “Ah, we’ll be fine, I’m fine, oh no I’m completely fine”. And then she suffers a lot with her breathing, with anxiety. It is something that is very easy to push to the side, but it really does affect her.

‘And I think she doesn’t want to do it for Jenny and Daisy, she feels like she’s completely let the team down. I think it’s a lot of front and face for that as well.’

Discussing the filming of these scenes, Jodie explained:

‘I mean I said, “don’t worry I’m not going to-do the splits, don’t worry”. There was glass everywhere, there was bats involved, it was so well put together and formulated, it was very well done.’

‘It’s really lovely’, she added, reflecting on playing a different side to Glenda.
