ITV Coronation Street spoilers: Chaotic character makes surprise return after a year – but is not welcome

There’s an unexpected guest at the Rovers in upcoming Coronation Street episodes when Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) gets a text from her mum, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) – who says she’s coming to stay for two weeks.

For Daisy it’s a lot more worrying than just thinking about whether she has time to wash the spare duvet cover. Christina’s appearances have always led to some sort of chaos, and chaos is what Daisy really doesn’t need right now.

Previously we’ve seen that there’s a long-running feud between Christina and Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), because Christina believes that Jenny was the reason her marriage broke down. This has previously led to the two women coming to blows.

As far as Christina’s relationship with her daughter is concerned, things have been strained between them for years.

Daisy uninvited her mum from her wedding to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) when Christina sided with Daisy’s childhood bullies, and Christina proclaimed that the wedding was cursed. This turned out to be horribly prophetic when the day turned to disaster when Daisy was targeted in an acid attack.

We last saw Christina in November when Christina gave Daisy an alibi after Daniel almost caught her in a liaison with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Things have moved on a lot now, of course. Daisy and Daniel have split up and she’s just started a relationship with Ryan after he arrived back from Scotland.

She’s also joint landlady of the Rovers, but this is where Christina’s presence could become very awkward indeed.

Viewers know that Daisy got the money to buy the pub when she gained access to Stephen Reid’s secret bank account, where he’d hidden the money he stole from Underworld. Unable to admit where the money had come from, Daisy has let people believe that it was a loan from Christina.

When Christina arrives at the pub, explaining that her passport has expired so she needs somewhere to stay before she can go and visit her friend in Amsterdam, Ryan insists she should at least stay and have a drink. After all, he says, it’s the least they can do after she lent them the money to buy the pub.

Obviously Christina’s ears prick up at these words – but will she destroy Daisy’s cover story and land her daughter in a massive amount of trouble?
