ITV Coronation Street spoilers: Bernie hits the bottle after getting devastating death news

Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) continued her mission in Wednesday’s (May 15) episode of Coronation Street to find her son Zodiac, unaware she’s actually already met him.

We know that Bernie put Zodiac – now called Christopher Green – up for adoption shortly after he was born because she struggled to cope. Before he was taken into care, Bernie ensured Zac took a little jade elephant with him as a keepsake.

Confirming in her mind that she wanted to find Zac and make amends, Bernie believed that all she would have to do was find all the Christopher Greens in the area, and she’d eventually find her son.

In Monday’s episode, Bernie entered the house of a man called Christopher and said she thinks he is her son.

The man, played by Jacob Roberts, told Bernie he was never adopted and sent her away, but grew curious later when he pulled out the jade elephant she had previously mentioned.

In tonight’s episode, Bernie told Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) that there’s one more Christopher Green on her list.

Sadly, when Bernie returned from her search, she told Dev that the Christopher in question actually died of cancer.

Believing she had lost the chance to see her son again, Bernie drowned her sorrows in the pub.

As she headed through the street, a drunk Bernie spotted Christopher – now called Kit – taking photos of the cafe.

Bernie immediately set about confronting him, curious as to why he’d be outside her friend’s business.

As Kit became aware that Bernie was tipsy, he arrested her for being drunk and disorderly.

At the station, as Kit took Bernie inside, they were faced with DS Swain (Vicky Myers).

Swain was unimpressed with Kit and told him to let Bernie go, because she wasn’t actually putting him in any danger. The detective reminded Kit that he has a case to work on – Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance.

In the shop, as Bernie updated Dev, he comforted her and said that she has two children in Weatherfield who love her very much.

As they hugged, Dev tried to make Bernie feel better by saying she probably won’t see that copper who arrested her ever again.

If only they knew.

Speaking about his new role, Jacob said: ‘I’m looking forward to everyone meeting Kit but I do think he is going to be a very misunderstood character at first.

‘He’s been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep rooted resentment with his biological mum, Bernie, which will be really interesting to play out.’
