ITV Coronation Street fans rejoice as much-loved star is promoted to main cast

Coronation Street fans are beyond thrilled after learning DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) has been promoted to the main cast of the show.

DS Swain has appeared as a guest character since 2021. During her arrival, she investigated the hate crime attack on Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni).

She then returned a year later to lead the investigation into Imran Habeeb’s (Charlie De Melo) death, which occurred after Toyah (Georgia Taylor) crashed their car into a wall.

Most recently, DS Swain headed back to Weatherfield for a number of storylines including Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) and Ryan’s (Ryan Prescott) acid attack, as well as Stephen Reid’s (Todd Boyce) downfall.

Following her first scenes in 2021, DS Lisa Swain has now become a bit of a Corrie icon.

The love for the character has grown even more recently, as Coronation Street confirmed Swain will become a permanent character, meaning we will see her in her role as Detective Sergeant, and learn more about her as Lisa Swain.

Taking to X, one avid Corrie watcher said: ‘Huge congratulations @VixMyers the fans have wanted this moment for you and us for years, justice for DS Lisa Swain’.

Echoing the joy, this fan also wrote: ‘I’ve thought for a while that DS Swain was being lined up for regular status, genuinely interested in this development!’.

In upcoming scenes Swain is set to be involved in the case surrounding Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance, but we may also see a more personal side to her, including a possible romance, though her family life may get in the way of that.

‘Relationship-wise with her we know she has a daughter, a teenage daughter’, Vicky Myers said.

‘Also – I’m not entirely sure if everybody knows this – she’s gay. I think she perhaps has seen somebody that’s caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy with focusing on this investigation and her career and being a single mum and juggling her home life as well with her teenage daughter.

‘If anybody out there has got teenage daughters they can quite well understand what I’m saying with that.

‘Obviously to portray that with authenticity, to be creatively challenged by that, is brilliant and I’m very thankful to be given this opportunity.’
