ITV Coronation Street confirms ‘darkest story ever’ in new pictures as Toyah Battersby makes grim discovery
Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is set to be left reeling by a discovery in Coronation Street later this year as cast members film scenes for a disturbing storyline.
Pictures from an on-location shoot for the ITV soap see Toyah stumble upon a devastating scene as the search continues for Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who vanished without a trace earlier this year.
Various residents of the eponymous street are determined to find out what exactly happened to Lauren in a bid to exonerate Roy Cropper (David Neilson), who is set to be jailed for the crime – despite being innocent.
Lauren’s disappearance has also garnered attention from a number of social media sleuths, two of which take it upon themselves to start digging up the red rec in upcoming scenes.
Toyah, however, spots the duo doing so and is left utterly horrified as she confronts them over what they’re doing.
Georgia, who plays Toyah, was spotted shooting the scenes on-location and, judging from her expression in the accompanying pictures, it’s quite clear that the subsequent discovery leaves her character reeling.
Just what has Toyah stumbled upon?
Given that reports recently confirmed a horrifying new storyline for Toyah, which will see her stillborn baby unearthed, it’s pretty clear that the pictures in question are in relation to said story.
The upcoming narrative, which has been met with criticism from ardent fans and previous cast members of the show, will prove to be a massive retcon, rewriting the controversial and graphic storyline from 2001, which saw Toyah raped by Phil Simmonds.
At the time, there was no inkling at all of a pregnancy or stillbirth, despite Toyah being a prominent character during that particular timeframe.
But in scenes to come, viewers will be expected to believe that Toyah endured this ordeal in secret and buried her dead baby in the park.
When the grave looks like it will be disturbed, as it is in the pictures above, the much-loved show legend will be thrown into a panic and the entire ordeal will come back to her.
The scenes are yet to play out but viewers have already branded the storyline an ‘appalling’, ‘atrocious’ and ‘absolutely repulsive’ one.
