GH’s John J. York Gives Health Update And Talks Potential GH Return

The handsome GH star had some good news to share.

John J. York, who has played Mac Scorpio on General Hospital since bursting on the scene in 1991, recently underwent a potentially lifesaving blood stem cell transplant. Now he has an update for fans who have been wondering how it’s going.

John J. York Checks In

The actor recorded a video on his official X account, debuting his new look and showing that his sense of humor is still intact. “Well, hey there, everyone. It’s me, and I’m checking in, but I know, wait a minute, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, why did Mac shave his beard? I didn’t shave my beard. I actually shaved the little bits of hair that was still left there.

“Anyway, I wanted to give you a little update as to how things are going along,” he continued. “They’re actually going along very well. I’m still in the middle stages of everything. I have a long road ahead, but the test results are looking good.” The actor was diagnosed with both myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple smoldering myeloma (two blood and bone marrow disorders). You can find out more about it here.

“I’m feeling really good,” he reported. “Hopefully, hopefully, things go the way they are, maybe be back on the show late spring, early summer. And I just wanted to thank you all so very much for all your notes and messages of support, encouragement, and all the love you’ve been sending my way. I feel your hugs every day, and I thank you very much for that. And, and that’s about it. So one day at a time, one day at a time, we’re gonna take care of this.”

The actor then had a message of cheer for everyone. “In the meantime, I want you all to have a very, very, very merry Christmas with your family and friends, your loved ones. I wish you all a very healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year. And for luck,” he added, rubbing his head, “How about some luck? Get some luck in there. Okay, Merry Christmas. Happy New Year, everyone.” Watch it for yourself below.
