Coronation Street legend Nigel Havers teased his soap character could return to the cobbles, despite Lewis Archer being dead.

Lewis was a notorious conman who first appeared on our screens back in 2009. During his time on the street, he scammed both Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) out of significant sums of money.

The actor, aged 72, was one of the guests on today’s Good Morning Britain to chat about his current stint on Channel 5’s historical series, Sandringham: A Royal Residence, where he explores the mysteries and grandeur of Sandringham House and its sprawling 20,000-acre estate.

Hosts Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh wound down spoke about his time on the cobbles of Weatherfield and the possibility of a dramatic return.

Ranvir said: ‘Politics, Olympics, the Royals- there’s nothing you can’t do! We didn’t even talk about Corrie- we always talk about Corrie!’

‘We always talk about Corrie. You never know I may come back!’ Nigel replied.

Ranvir echoed his sentiment, saying: ‘You may come back!’ However, before she could probe further, Ed interjected, reminding her that it was time to transition to the next segment of the show.

Corrie fans will know that Lewis previously pretended to be his twin brother, Hugh, before being caught out by Audrey and Gail Platt (Helen Worth).

On New Year’s Day 2019, Lewis died of a heart attack in dramatic scenes.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain back in 2019, Nigel made the suggestion that he could come back to the soap in the role of Lewis’ twin brother, and we’d be totally here for it.

‘Indeed, he has obviously, a twin brother living in Australia,’ Nigel stated.

Presenter Piers Morgan said at the time then went on to suggest that Lewis could have faked his own death, and given that he was always a conman, we wouldn’t put it past him.
