BBC EastEnders icon’s character slammed as boring by hilariously cheeky daughter

Natalie Cassidy’s daughter has branded her iconic EastEnders character Sonia Fowler as ‘boring’ – and she couldn’t be more wrong.

I for one would love to be the offspring of the trumpet-wielding legend.

Natalie, 41, has played Sonia in the BBC soap sporadically since 1993 and is mum to daughters Eliza and Joanie, who she shares with her fiancé Marc Humphreys.

However, whilst chatting with pop queen Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her Spinning Plates podcast, Nat shared the brutal truth and admitted her daughter finds character ‘boring’.

‘She’ll go, “Mummy… Sonia’s so boring. I just don’t like watching you on here, honestly I just don’t like it,”‘ Natalie told Sophie.

‘I say, “I’ve been there a long time darling, there’s a lot of people who do like me”‘

‘She says, “Well, I’m not one of them.” She actually fast forwards my bits, but I don’t know if that’s because I’m her mum or that’s just her take on Sonia.’

Earlier this week, Sonia dressed up as a fish to match with boyfriend Reiss’s (Jonny Freeman) chips costume. The pair were attending Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) and Zack Hudson’s (James Farrar) sten-do, which ended in Whit giving birth prematurely.

‘I hope she can potter about being a nurse a bit longer’ she continued.

‘I don’t want her to die a terrible death – I don’t want her to get run over or pushed over at Walford tube station.’

Away from soapland, Natalie is busy being the ultimate hun hosting her own podcast, Life With Nat. She also hosts the Off the Telly podcast with Gavin and Stacey actress Joanna Page.

The new show had overnight success, with Natalie taking to Instagram to share her excitement over it being number 1 in the podcast charts.

This soaps reporter hopes she’s around for a lot longer.
