BBC EastEnders’ Godmother Gets GALACTIC! Angela Wynter Beams Up to New Role with Time-Traveling Twist!

EastEnders star Angela Wynter is taking to the TARDIS in the new series of Doctor Who this weekend – and her role is very different to Yolande Trueman.

The actress, 66, first appeared in the BBC One soap as God-fearing Yolande in 2003, continuing in the role for the next five years.

She made guest appearances in 2017, and returned to the show on a permanent basis last year.

The character is currently embroiled in a harrowing storyline that has seen her sexually assaulted by prayer group leader Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler) and in tonight’s (7th May) episode, she finally confides in life-partner Patrick (Rudolph Walker) about the ordeal.

However, if you’re a fan of sci-fi and soap, you may have seen her make a guest appearance in long-running serial Doctor Who last year.

The show, which recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary, is currently undergoing a renaissance with show runner Russell T Davies, who helped bring it back to screens in 2005 after 16 years off air.

His changes have included introducing Sex Education and Barbie icon Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor, and former Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.

Ruby’s first episode was last year’s Christmas special, The Church on Ruby Road.

We learnt that she was the adoptive daughter of a woman named Carla (Michelle Greenidge) and was living in a large flat with her elderly grandmother Cherry, who is played by Angela.

When Carla received a new foster baby named Lulubelle, the infant was kidnapped by goblins who tried to eat her aboard their mothership.

The Doctor saved her from being consumed, but upon his return to the flat, Ruby had disappeared.

Carla and Cherry had no recollection of the girl they’d taken into their care nineteen years ago, and it later transpired that the goblins had gone back in time to stop her being found on the steps of a church.

The Doctor, using his TARDIS, was able to go back to 2004 and stop them, returning Ruby to her home.

The new series premieres on BBC iPlayer at midnight on Saturday, and will air a double-bill prior to the Eurovision Song Contest.

It’s understood that Angela will continue her role as Cherry throughout the upcoming season.

She’ll be in good company alongside EastEnders royalty Anita Dobson, who plays her mysterious neighbour Mrs Flood.

When Ruby headed off on an adventure with The Doctor, Flood broke the fourth wall and asked the viewer: ‘haven’t you ever seen a TARDIS before?’ – she seemingly knows a lot about the timelord!
